Last year, hundreds of thousands of loving dogs and cats were killed in shelters like the ones here in Los Angeles just because they didn’t have a safe place to call home.
Best Friends Animal Society in Los Angeles is working collaboratively with animal rescue groups, city shelters and passionate individuals who are all dedicated to saving the lives of cats and dogs in Los Angeles shelters.
As part of this mission, Best Friends hosts adoption and fundraising events and leads the NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) initiative.
As of January 1, 2023, we’ll no longer be operating out of our Mission Hills location and all adoptions will be taking place at our West L.A. location only.
You can be part of that work too when you adopt, foster, volunteer or advocate. We can provide training and behavior guidance should you ever need it, or help you find local spay/neuter services. Working together, we'll make California and the entire country no-kill by 2025.

Jason Hoffer: This is a great place to rescue a dog from. Not only are the staff and the facility great, they have an incredible program with the local juvenile hall where the kids train the dogs. So not only are you doing a great thing rescuing a dog, the kids in juvenile hall get an extra sense of purpose with the dog program and the adopter gets a trained dog. Chris Murray runs the dog program between paws for life and the juvenile hall and was incredibly helpful and great to work with.
MARIA JONES: BEST place to adopt a dog. They come spade or neutered. Microchiped, and the vet is the next door over. Training is also included.Did I mention prison.Yeap, you can send your dog to jail. 6 weeks of training, and then they come home.The staff is personable, and you can tell they love animals. They are more than willing to answer your question.The dogs have a giant area to run around in outside.

Cesia Astorga-Villalta: Paws for life is a great and valuable resource to the community especially with their free dog training courses. The staff is nice and their trainers really do care and really do know how to address issues. They work very hard and are passionate about what they do. I have had a great experience with them. The only thing is that their training classes do fill up quickly throughout the month, so be sure to check in often. They also have a socialize play groups which I’m hoping to eventually get my dog into. Dogs do need to be assessed by an individual trainer prior to social play groups. It’s also very nice location near some pretty parks and the grounds are well-maintained and clean.

BALBINA VILLARREAL: Very effective and they treat pets very well. They only have one problem in being able to have an appointment. It is very frustrating. You cannot get it.

Michaela Anderson: Incredibly grateful the work the ASPCA and their spay/neuter clinic does. I've been in a rough spot recently, and they were able to spay my girl for free and took great care of her. I'm not sure what I would have done otherwise. You can tell they have great bedside manner - my girl has separation anxiety but followed the kind employees right into the building. We tried to sign up for three days and finally got an appt on the 4th morning we tried. I recommend pulling up the website a few minutes before 6a and then refreshing it constantly. If you're able to put your name, do it lightning fast, otherwise it might kick you off while you're still filling in your information. 4 weeks out and my pup's scar is healing beautifully and she is back to being her crazy self. Thanks, ASPCA!

patrick levy: We just took our two captured cats in for their first check up, chips, and vaccines, and we couldn’t be happier with the experience. The staff was great, they were good with our cats, and the whole experience was just a lot less painful than it could’ve been. I would definitely recommend them.
