LA Woodshop: what do users think?

Mel C: I had a fantastic time taking the Picture Frames class with Todd and Cam over the weekend. Todd is great at explaining all the information and has a bunch of knowledge about wood and woodworking, while Cam was always teaching us different ways to do what Todd was explaining and also has a bunch of knowledge about wood and woodworking. Safety is always a priority here and I highly recommend taking their classes! Also it's super fun and satisfying to put some wood together to make an object.

Zachary Schiff: Very good very nice! Everyone who was working there for my intro class was very nice, competent, and encouraging. Awesome space, highly recommend if you're trying to learn the basics or do something more advanced!

JON KOHAN: thanks yall. I look forward to more

Nicholas Lydon: Fantastic class and fantastic instructors. I’d recommend this to anyone that has an interest in woodworking. You definitely do not need to know anything going into it, and the instructors are fantastic about answering any sort of questions you have about the topic, even if it’s about a topic outside of that specific session. Would definitely go again!

Michael Licht: Such a great experience. Thank you everyone at LA Woodshop for providing an informative and FUN class.

Lian Han: I recently took the introduction cutting board class at LA woodshop and I would recommend it to groups and individuals who are looking to get into woodworking, understand the key tools and steps to prep wood and get exposure to a shop environment. The teaching team was warm, knowledgeable and hands-on while still providing space and room to play and ask questions. The session is all day, but the time flies by especially if you have a good group of fellow students. Thanks LA Woodshop! I'll be back for more

Joshua Lynn: I had a great experience with LA Woodshop’s bowl turning class. Nat was patient and encouraging. I’ll definitely take more classes with them!

Laura Temming: I recently took the Intro to Woodworking class at LA Woodshop and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning the "basics" of the form. Our group of ten started with a raw piece of wood and worked around the entire shop, beginning with the joiner all the way through to finishing with mineral oil.Todd, Kim and Cam kept the day moving quickly and safely, covering a lot information and providing practical guidance while keeping the process fun, and providing guardrails to assist us students in ideating and developing our finished product.I'm looking forward to taking more of their class offerings in the future. They really do a wonderful job.

Linda Capetillo-Cunliffe: Took a fantastic magnetic knife rack class at LA Woodshop. I highly recommend their class. The staff are patient and knowledgable. It's a relaxed environment and informative class. I will definitely take another class here.

Patrick Temming: Had a great time at the intro class. Kim, Cam and Todd were all amazing. All three were patient, funny and generous with their time. I won’t look at soda straws the same again.

Esteban Arguello: I took the intro to woodworking class and it was a lovely time. Over the course of a day we learned how to make a cutting board using a jointer, planner, table saw, mitre saw, band saw, and belt sander. Really came away with a complete understanding of may of the tools in the woodshop. Would recommend to anyone interested in woodworking.

Sara White: A truly wonderful afternoon with excellent teachers. Gained knowledge and appreciation and looking forward to taking another class!

Ali Beikzade: I recently rolled out of bed on a Sunday morning, feeling like I'd lost an hour of precious sleep thanks to the time change. But let me tell you, the woodworking training class at LA Woodshop made that early start totally worth it!Todd, our trainer, is not just a woodworking whiz but also a comedian in disguise. He had us in stitches with his jokes while teaching us the ins and outs of woodworking. When it came to safety, though, Todd's serious side came out, and he made sure we understood just how important it is to work safely.Kim and Briana were like woodworking encyclopedias, patiently answering all my questions, no matter how silly they seemed and helped me through completing my first wooden project. Thanks to Todd's guidance, I now feel more confident to start my woodworking projects at home. He covered everything from basic machines to safety tips and even recommended me some great learning resources. The only downside? The class was only for a day! I wish there were more weekend classes like this one. If you're thinking about getting into woodworking, I can't recommend LA Woodshop enough. They're cool, they're funny, and most importantly, they know their stuff!

Jasmine Pierce: Great class, great environment, learned a lot.

Scott Peragine: I can't recommend LA Woodshop enough! After some light dabbling in simple DIY home projects, I took the Intro to Woodworking class to become more knowledgeable and confident about working with wood. The class walked us through the milling process, cutting/shaping, and finishing, and I successfully turned a block of raw cherry wood into a cutting board that I'm pretty proud of.There were 3 instructors for an 11 person class so there was a good teaching ratio, and the staff did a perfect job of explaining how to use various saws/sanders/etc safely and comfortably. I'd definitely consider taking another class to continue what I think will be a very fun new hobby and skill!

R Mercer: The Intro to Woodworking class was great. I learned so much relative to overall workshop safety specific to tool use, and received great hands-on training on the use of the various woodshop machines/tools. I have more confidence with the table saw, and a better understanding of it's use. I received valuable training on the milling process, which included the proper use of the jointer and thickness planer. I was especially appreciative of the guidance the instructors provided in the operation of the bandsaw, thickness planer, and drill press as I recently acquired all three tools. I left with a better understanding of the characteristers of various types of wood. I learned so much in this one day class, too much to list all of the details in this review. I highly recommend LA Woodshop for classes. Todd, Jim, and Kim were all very helpfull and informative, and very patient. Their easy demeanor put everyone at ease wherein they were able to assist those who were particalrly intimidated by the machines. If you are one of those individuals then LA Woodshop is just right for you.I also signed up for the Practical Cabinet Making class and am very much looking forward to working with the instructors in enhancing my knowledge and skills in woodworking.LA Woodshop is a great place to start with very welcoming staff.

Christopher Foster: This was the most fun I’ve had in a long time. Where’s the 10 Stars button? The teachers are amazing! Knowledgeable, funny, patient, and so helpful! I’m definitely going back for more classes. Bonus: shop dog Sailor is a cutie!

Max Skelly: Had a really great time doing the intro class! Would love to do more, especially if longer-term weekend classes open up!

Gisela Salazar: Had the best time in the intro course! They all are very professional and knowledgeable, will definitely recommend and will be coming back for more courses!

Allied Woodshop: what do users think?

Susan Aparicio: I took the intro to woodworking class. The teachers were friendly and very helpful, and had so much knowledge and skills to share. They gave clear guidance on the use of all the machines and gave great hands on instruction. Would love to take more classes with them in the future.

Michael Kaczynski: Really great place to learn some new skills and meet some nice people. The instructors are extremely knowledgeable and very approachable. Highly recommend!

Emily Mendonsa: I had a great experience at Allied Woodworking. Marty and Lauren were awesome instructors and took the time to help each of us individually with design and troubleshooting. We did the intro class and made cutting boards, and everyone got to make theirs unique based on what type of wood, shape, etc we chose. The instructors taught us how to use some of the bigger machines, and I always felt safe because they explained things well. I also enjoyed being able to do everything myself. I came away feeling like I know how to use several machines and I have some new skills that I could apply to future projects, plus the cutting board turned out beautiful! The class is pretty expensive but considering it is 6 hours long and you get a lot of individual instruction and learn so much, I think it is well worth the cost. It was a lot of fun, thank you Marty and Lauren!

M P: Best. Ever. Took Intro to Woodworking class a few months ago. Something i had been wanting to do for a very long time and i'm SO happy I found Allied Woodshop. It was such a wonderful experience. I learned a lot and was surrounded by awesome people in a beautiful space. Instructors were very friendly and clear and just great. Loved this so much!!! Highly recommend checking them out!

Angelica Marsic: My third class here, each with fantastic instructors and awesome projects to show for it. Highly recommend.

Madisyn Ritland: I took the intro to joinery. Lovely experience, great instructors, other students were very nice, clean space, beautiful project

Ruvan Jayasinghe: Took a woodworking class with Ana and Maddy and really enjoyed it! Will be back to take another class soon.

K: I just did the intro to woodworking and HOLY CRAZY FUN TOWN. First of all, it’s utterly magical to have a gender diverse and women inclusive studio to play in with other fun creative peeps. Thank you allied! I am going to take allllll your classes!

Blake w: I've taken two classes here and volunteered with painting their new space. The classes and instructors have been wonderful. They have a great set up for teaching. The best thing about Allied Workshop, though, is their dedication to teaching woodworking to people normally kept out such "traditionally male" activities. I will be back for more classes.

Sophie Eskenazi:

Shivom Patel:

ANDRES AGUDELO:

Anna Louie:

Community Woodshop: what do users think?

David Kashevaroff: This is a great place to learn woodworking. I’ve taken several classes and used the shop for some personal projects. I hardly know what I’m doing half the time but I can always ask a question of the shop owners and get the opinion of a professional. And sometimes if they see me doing something that could be done better/differently, they will approach me and tell me. Everything you need is here and it is truly a great resource in the community.

Pavlo Kalmykov: This is an awesome place built by woodworking enthusiasts for woodworking enthusiasts. Came here with some ideas to build some things and found great place, great equipment and great community! Definitely recommend this place!

Rick Ellison: This place is the best. Many woodworking classes to take, good machines.

Magdalena Czmuda: When I turned 38 I realized I don't have a passion and decided to learn woodworking. So far I did 4 different classes with their team - and none of them dissapoint. Teachers are kind, patient, amazing, they make sure you understand all of the tools and processes, all in super safe enviroment. I tried many different woodshops in the past and Community Woodshop is the best out of all of them. Also, super safe space for Queer people. Love, love, love.

H: Had a blast here. My partner and I took a bench woodworking class last year for my birthday, walked away with two extremely useful benches & had the best time. Can’t wait to come back!

Franz de los Reyes: Had a great experience at the shop! My schedule is hectic and unfortunately can’t make the classes, but I did do a private lesson with Bob. In one afternoon, we created two cutting boards. Bob was very detailed with breaking down the process and using the machines. Honestly didn’t expect to make two cutting boards but Bob was proficient with time. I got really comfortable using the machines especially the table saw. I learned how to use the planer, jointer, miter saw, table saw, drill press, router, disk sander, and random orbital sander. Really recommend folks that are interested in woodworking with little to no experience to take the Safety Orientation and the Cutting Board class or private lessons. Looking forward to my next project at the shop!

Michael Kieley: It's a great place to make furniture and other wood objects, and to learn about basic and advanced woodworking, but what makes it truly unique is that it truly has a feeling of 'community.' As a veteran of numerous maker spaces, I can say this is not something that is easy to acheive. The quality and variety of tools available is excellent, and I love the fact that I don't have to do any of the maintenance / sharpening / adjusting.Members are extremely polite about sharing tools, and the staff is extremely helpful.I used to have a woodshop in my studio, but I much prefer this environment. I find my productivity and workflow is improved by the fact that they have pretty much every tool, so all I need to bring is an idea and some wood.Whether you are an expert, or an absolute beginner, I strongly recommend you drop by for a visit.

Zelda F Williams: This is a good place to learn wood working. It's a nice shop. Safety is a primary concern here. This is good for those just beginning in woodworking. Many classes to take to learn woodworking techniques.

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware - Torrance: what do users think?

Frank Godino: I have been to the Rockler in Redondo Beach a few times, and I’ve always been met with helpful, knowledgeable staff. I just found out that store will be closing in the near future, for whatever reason. It’s a shame to see the brick and mortar stores close, as is the case with many others due to extremely poor running of both state and nation, which affects these businesses.

Joel Steingold: A big shout out to the staff at Torrance Rockler, especially to Mark on this trip. Mark is always cheerful, and wanting to help. He is an all around excellent employee and a great guy.

Jay Bruder: The product I was looking for was in stock. The sales person was friendly and helpful.

Slavko Antolos: that had no idea about epoxy work. Made the entire class fell at ease and now I think I am going to give it a try by myself. Then after class made a few purchases and the manager Paul was very helpful and answered my questions in a way that many of us would feel very comfortable with. Really enjoyed the experience and plan to take a few more classes in the future. Thank you Rockler!!

Tony D: I used to call Rockler Torrance, CA my toy story. I still enjoy going in and making a purchase or two. There has been a big turn over in staff since manager Lou Barcelo left. Not to say I don't like the current crew, I do. They are friendly and helpful. BUT, since Covid struck, no more coffee and donuts on Saturdays and forget about in store demos.

Steve Danjou: Went to pick up a new sander and some router bits. Employee was helpful as always. Found tue sander right away and picked up a couple bits but the 60 degree bits were way too much. They have been pricing that bit up because we need it for engraving. Definitely not worth $34 for that bit. Then when you go to check out, you have to deal with the mandatory up sale try for the ‘tool of the month’. I only go to Rockler now when I need something they have that no one has or in the rare times they are cheaper. I hate getting the up sale at the register. So annoying and insulting. ‘Hey, I know you are a woodworker but let me seep you this silicone glue brush no one other than a new woodworker would use’….’how about the 3 in 1 marking tool that will break within a month’. I’d rather go to other stores rather than being treated like an idiot.

L K: Rockler Torrance always delivers a first rate customer service experience, products are just as good. Love this store.

Ken Falasco: Enjoyed my visit. Product was available and received very helpful assistance.

Tom Tanaka: I’m a few years into woodworking as a hobby. The guys at Rockler are extremely knowledgeable and helpful in helping me build my shop. They always help me with recommendations on how to build my projects. They are a great resource for woodworkers!

Wayne Ziegelemyer: Great service. Awesome people!

Timothy Olinger: Very helpful and knowledgeable. Willy was a big help.

Nicole M: so you get unlimited personal attention. I've taken classes from Willie, Lee, Char, and Tom and couldn't be happier with how much I learned and how much fun I had. With the ring making, especially, I couldn't believe how easy Char made the process and how beautiful the final product was!The people here are so wonderful. I've had wonderful interactions with everyone who works there and, in addition to the instructors I've named above, both Joe and Paul have also been super helpful. Honestly, sometimes I stop by this store just to chat with Willie and Lee because they are so cool. They never try to sell us on anything, but my husband and I can't help but leave with a purchase each time. You can come in here with literally any question about a project you've got in mind and they will make sure you are headed in the right direction.

louilis: Wonderful crew

Subrina Pena: Clean and organized. Very helpful and knowledgeable associates. They also offer wood working classes which sound like a great opportunity.

RcRABS: Love this place. Went by to see if they had lamp kits to build. Spent a good amount of time looking at all their products.

R J: Nice little woodwork hardware store. Visited this store to find parts for pens and pen making kits. I was surprised on the stuff they had. Must check them out if you have any carpentry projects.

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware - Pasadena: what do users think?

Bobby Coyote: Saddest day as I walked up to find my favorite place empty and about to close for good. To Don- Thanks for being so kind and helpful today, I hope your new chapter is filled with all the good things, despite this travesty. May the wood gods bless you!!!

Janis Cavanaugh: I had to make one last trip to say goodbye to Don. He always made my visits enjoyable. Goodbye Pasadena Rockler!

Eder Orellana: I love this place. This is my go to location, its a shame its being closed. Now I have to decide whether to drive an hour to orange or Ontario. I hope there's another location near Pasadena in the future for Rockler woodworking.

Janet Shepard: LOVE THIS STORE!! PLEASE OPEN ANOTHER ONE IN THE AREA!

Mat Stovall: Read this location is closing. Will be very sad to see it go.

Jim Mallory: The service is always excellent, the inventory is always lacking when it comes to cabinet hinges. I needed 21 pairs and the shelf had 20. I had to go online and pay 30% more for one pair to fill my needs. Had I ordered all of them online, I could've had a nice discount, but that would've delayed the job too. Can't win in this situation.

Michael Carter: As always, very helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff. It will be a great loss when the Pasadena store closes its doors in the coming weeks!!!

Mark Harvis: Great store. Terrific employees. Shame you are closing it. There is no other similar store in the area. Customers are unhappy. Very unhappy.

Obi C: Rockler has a great selection of products and I’m amazed at how they can fit it all in the smaller shops. Prices are pretty good and it’s always fun to walk around and check out the be interesting inventory. It’s a great “candy shop“ and always a fun way to spend some time.

Jesse Flores: Great store and friendly service, I always find what I need and great monthly specials 👍

John Kalandjian: They’re very helpful and nice with items I was looking for above and beyond thank you all.

Jameson Rollins: Everyone there is super helpful. It's a real crying shame that this location is shutting down, it makes me very sad.

James Barros: Pasadena Rockler is my go to spot for woodworking supplies. They are knowledgable, patient, and willing to help us newbs learn the ropes and keep all our fingers in working order. A+++

RayK: always nice people and friendly service.
