4worldlovers: Albert Hammond Jr's Melodies on Hiatus is eclectic, emotional, and energizing. The erstwhile Strokes guitarist consistently delivers on his solo material, and this time he offers up a mix of straight up rock club bops and gentle indie rock ballads. The tempo never lags over the course of this stellar nineteen-song collection, with driving rhythms, stirring melodies, and bittersweet romantic lyrics. Melodies showcases Hammond Jr's impressive ability to create choruses that stick with you, build an effortlessly cool rock 'n' roll atmosphere, and leave you feeling like you've just spent the last however-many-tracks dancing in a dirty basement bar to the best set you've ever heard in your life.

Nothing But Thieves's Dead Club City feels like a breath of fresh air. The English alt-rockers make indie-tinged rock music that feels readymade for both sold out arena shows and crowded dance floors. "Welcome to the DCC" is a totally irresistible electro number, like Daft Punk fronting a rock band. The upbeat melodies of "Overcome" are imbued with a sense of melancholy and desperation, with a chorus that's ultimately soulful and uplifting — an anthem of emotional triumph with a completely excellent guitar solo. Dead City Club is exhilarating from start to finish.

PJ Harvey's I Inside the Old Year Dying is a work of astounding beauty. Recorded with longtime collaborators John Parish and Flood, it's her first release in seven years, an exploration of in-between places. The intensity of first love, seeking quiet and solace, the ancient past, and the tumult of recent years: these are the lyrical preoccupations of the album, elements which, along with the sometimes sparse and often haunting melodies, give I Inside the Old Year Dying its otherworldly, liminal feel. The album's biblical and Shakespearean references have been spotlighted in much writing about these songs, and while they do imbue the music with a sense of timelessness, and an infinitude of time, these tracks also just feel like a gateway portal into the Old Weird Britain. It's a magical, strange, uneasy feeling, but one filled with enchantment, hope, wonder, and loveliness. One of her best.

Snõõper brings you only the finest in wild, weird punk rock with Super Snõõper . The songs are fast and (not that) furious, short and sweet, just pure good times punk rock in the grand tradition. What gives Snõõper extra credit is the gleeful abandon with which they tear into these songs and the complete ridiculous of their stage shows, with puppets, 8-bit animation, and flashing lights — unfortunately none of which you can actually see as the album plays, but which are hinted at on the equally awesome cover art. If your punk rock rotation has room for joyful and bizarre amidst the angry and nihilistic, this one's for you.

Rita Ora's You & I is one of the juiciest pop albums you'll hear this year. "You Only Love Me" is an all-that-glitters kiss-off to the type of situationship where one party's only interested when they're lonely. On the opposite side of the spectrum sits the celebratory, soulful "Praising You," an update of Fatboy Slim's "Praise You" that really works for this 21st century pop diva. The tracks on You & I are sleek, sexy, and addictive...but they're also tightly-crafted and top notch. You & I should hit the spot for the pop connoisseur.

Sticks & Stones is a breath of fresh air. Lukas Nelson & POTR deliver good old-fashioned country/Americana sounds with a contemporary, tongue-in-cheek sensibility. On "More Than Friends," a duet with Lainey Wilson that was made for hot summer nights at the honky-tonk, the pair sing about a friendship that might, enjoyably. cross the line. On the title track, the band creates a hard-driving, blues-inflected melody with lyrics that are at once wise, humorous, and warm. Sticks & Stones is a rollicking good time, a heartfelt album that'll make you feel like you're in the heart of Texas.

The Winding Way feels like a blast from the past, with a contemporary twist. Australian rockers The Teskey Brothers inject their languid, lovelorn blues tracks with a heavy dose of Motown. If you didn't already know, you'd swear these were classic '60s tracks, made for pining away in style on hot, humid summer nights. The vocals combine honey and grit, the orchestrations are easygoing and electric, with powerful orchestral flourishes and ebullient horns. The Winding Way is powerful, soulful, and ready to take the world by storm.
