Downtown Dog Rescue is a 501C3 nonprofit charity organization that owns our own kennel property in South Gate, CA. We rescue all types of dogs from animal shelters and the community that we serve. Help save lives by adopting or fostering a DDR dog!


On July 5, 2020, DDR opened our first Pet Support Space location on Florence and Western in South Los Angeles. In January 2023, we expanded our office, added a thrift store for pets on site at 3925 Tweedy Blvd South Gate, CA. The program was designed to increase access to veterinary care, including spay/neuter, while supporting the whole family with services and resources to keep more pets and people together.


The South LA Shelter Intervention program, a collaboration with LA Animal Services, operated out of the South LA Shelter from April 2013-April 2020, providing services for more than 15,000 family pets.

DDR has been focused on providing access to services for unhoused people and their pets since 1996. With a dedicated outreach team, focused on meeting people with pets where they are at the present time, offering spay/neuter, vaccinations, and a monthly food program, we have enrolled thousands of people with pets that live in their cars, vans, RVs, in a tent, form Skid Row down to the city of Compton.
