Sideshow Books: what do users think?

Jennifer Stambook: Love this place. If you like books with a bit of organized chaos, this is the perfect book store for you. There is so much to see and find, it is literally a literary adventure.

쥬쥬: So glad to visit hear!! Thank you so much !!

Maia Ross Trupin: Such a lovely little bookstore and experience. Loved the owner.

Chloe Lau: The people working were very kind. They also sell art and books. There is sidewalk parking

tolga demirsar: This is a wondrous place that feels like a neighborhood museum. The owner, Tony, is extremely friendly. Stop by, enjoy a cup of complimentary espresso, and be sure to purchase some books!

Jeff Bridges: Great place to get lost! Tony is great and knowledgeable!

Jon Maas: At first when you whiz by you think it's like a mirage in the desert; what is a bookstore doing in this miserable stretch of La Cienega. And so I ignored it for months. I finally went there and found the mirage is actually paradise. The ideal used bookstore for everyone, with a vast supply of rare and wonderful books in every subject, and an owner who will do everything to help you find what you are looking for, or don't even know you want. How can we clone him and it?

Ally Zucker: Sideshow Books is a book-lovers dream. Tony, the owner, is a sweet, intelligent, and helpful. Could easily spend days lost in the stacks!

Diana Clarke: Wow, what a hidden gem in LA. Forget about the Last Bookstore downtown, Sideshow is the real best used bookstore in town. Cozy, intimate, great selection considering the small scale but what you give up in breadth you gain in character. Plus the owner is delightful and offers you espresso and a cookie as you enter. Love this place.

Kereen Saleh: Great used book store.

Aldine Books: what do users think?

Alexandru Gheorghiu: . I first entered their store in the late 1990s, perhaps even earlier. Back then Aldine’s was located on Hollywood Blvd just east of Vermont Ave. They had been there for decades. In 2008, they moved to Melrose just east of Heliotrope, then about a year later they moved to where they are now, on Heliotrope just south of Melrose. The first books that I remember buying from them I bought in 1999, when they were near Barnsdall park on Hollywood near Vermont. If you want a more serious reason why I didn’t give five stars, it’s because his aisles are usually blocked by boxes of books in recent years, so that you can barely browse some aisles, while other aisles can’t be browsed at all! Despite that habit of his to block the aisles in later/recent years, this is a wonderful old school little used bookstore with a lot of books and magazines to browse and see if you find something you want to buy.

Soren Nilsson: a beautiful little bookstore filled with books! if you’re interested in older used books, clothbound or musky, this is a great stop. the man who runs it is very nice and there’s a friendly shop cat.

Marilyn Gross: Great selection overall and my toddler especially loved the kids section with a reading area just her size. Perfect way to entertain a kid while browsing for something for yourself, and a welcome relief from the big name shops on the promenade. Highly recommend.

Brittney Garcia: One of my favorite places in Los Angeles, has a feel you cant get anywhere else shopping for books. Its like searching for treasure and every book is gold. Always a fun experience, cant imagine not having this place! its dusty and full of character

Can of Beans: Classic blast from past kind of place

Michael Rubbo: Lots of inexpensive, used book treasures! And CC The Cat is soooo friendly!

Brielle McClain: Lovingly owned and deserving of your patronage. Great selection of used books for true book nerds who cherish the browse. Also a resident orange tabby who will follow you around the store if you’re worthy.

Paul Ju: Alot of good used korean books, affordable

D.K Na: Jjamppong is very spicy. It's still delicious though.

narae kim: You can park at the H Mart building, and if you get a parking stamp, it's free for four hours. The books are diverse and well organized. Above all, the staff were very friendly. I plan to visit again next time I go to LA.

Alias Books East: what do users think?

Kevin Longrie: Fewer and fewer books these days. I remember when this opened. I remember the original Alias over by the Nuart. I remember wishing I was a grad student with a job here. Love the section, love the staff; wish I had more good bookstores like this near me.

Nash Holcomb: Used book stores are essential! Here you can find all sort of stuff from popular titles to plenty of obscure or hyper-specific works, like a book on artwork from North Korea for example. Definitely worth a visit for any book lovers, especially if you’re into philosophy or political science

Darren Embry: before walking in. Always helpful staff. Love this store!!

Melida Hernandez: Good place

Richard Creel: Really good selection of philosophy books.

Jessica Jew: Beautifully curated shelves filled with books but not cluttered. I found it a welcoming respite from the rain earlier this week.

William: Quality books. Store is well organized. Selection limited.

Karen M.: Small but eclectic book store. Has some good collections of poetry, music and Hollywood/movie biographies.

Vanessa Beecroft: perfect

Ralph Olivas: All the books at Alias are of the very best condition.

Bargain Books: what do users think?

Emily Kosciuk: This little bookstore on a side street in Van Nuys was a spot I was trying to check out for a while but lazy me kept forgetting it’s only open Friday and Saturday from 11 am - 4 pm. I’m glad I made the trip now because I learned that the store is closing this July 2023. Bargain Books has been here since 1958 and with 60+ years in a tiny 2000 sf space, there’s accumulated evidence of organized care. With wires, stepstools, labeled boxes, and a stereo, I feel like I’m walking through a treasure box for literary nerds. I enjoyed scanning each shelf and remaining open to surprises that I might stumble across. Best wishes Bargain Books, may we see your character thrive on the digital side.

Sarah Harkey: Great little shop! Staff is lovely and knowledgeable. Great selection of used, vintage, and antique books.

Sierra Aust: Always a treasure to be found here, especially in the outdoor $1 book area.

John Monek: I was visiting my hometown Los Angeles from Philadelphia and neglected to pack reading materials. I sought out local bookstores and was informed of the existence of this place.I was taken back to my childhood in Hollywood visiting the used bookstores and recalled being immediately assailed by the wonderful "old book smell" upon entering.Thank you for struggling to exist. I miss those days. It is nice to know that parts of it continue to remain.I went in looking for works from Thomas Hardy for my mother and something to give me hope for the coming future. I walked out with both for $3.50.Mine was a collection of Christmas Stories by Charles Dickens. 😁

Joanna R: Love this small bookshop! They are only open two days out of the week which is the only downside. But I love to go look at their $1 section! Great prices and great stuff!

MrM4DM4N: Great selection, great prices, great experience. Also they were very helpful and accommodating.

donald sternberg: One of the last traditional used bookstores...will be sorry to see it go. Owners are great but tired after many decades of ownership. Go see them before it's too late

Evan Litchfield: Had a really interesting collection of books. It's a rather small store but I was still able to find something to take home. Can't wait to go back and explore some more.

Patrick Sargent: are you guys still open for business?

robert l. jones: Great bookstore you should visit it and you will be hooked

T. Carson: Love coming here, find treasures everytime. It is now my favorite bookstore and it's a small quaint atmosphere is a plus. 📚✨✨

Marsha Collier: This is a magical bookshop! It's family run and has been open since 1958. It is the place to go for quality used and out of print books. Everything is organized perfectly, so you can get lost in your favorite topic. They're only open 11 - 4 on Fridays & Saturdays and are near the Van Nuys Courthouse. I'm not sure that the owners won't retire soon, so I recommend that if you're a book lover, get there soon!

Mo Hernandez: Did not purchase anything this time but the owners or workers are really nice people thats i like coming here everyone should visit this book store.

Maura W: Edit: Bookmonster is closing on 4/3/22. Enjoy 50% off everything in store while you can!We love Bookmonster! We're so glad they didn't have to close last year. It's great that they buy used books in addition to offering their huge discounted selection.

Arpan Shah: Loved the 50% off sale

Vanessa Ganaden: I adore this cute bookstore right in the heart of Santa Monica! This independent bookstore sells used and new books. The quality of the used books are better than most used bookstores. While some popular used books can still be a bit expensive, you can still find great deals on gently used copies, some of them hardcover. I always end up with a stack of books whenever I stop by. If you're a local, get the free membership, you get 5% discount for every purchase. This is a must stop for any bookworm, and you get to support independent bookstores, which feels like a dime a dozen nowadays.

Erich Barischoff: Great book store with very reasonable prices. Don't know how they do it really!

Paul Eisman: they rarely buy any of my books

Jessica Fay: J'aime beaucoup: you can find a large selection of books in many languages. Amazing! And very efficient if you want to find a specific book. Bravo!

Raúl Barrera: The concept is pretty cool, most of the books are in perfect conditions.

Sean Moynihan: book good
