Clara Jones: Our instructor Juan was amazing! The surf company's sign up process and communication about how to prepare and where to meet was great, but Juan really set our experience apart from other surf lessons. Myself and my 9 year old daughter found his instructions and details easy to follow and his coaching out in the waves was fantastic! On top of all that he was always looking out for my daughter's safety and making sure she was having fun. The whole time in the water he pushed us into wave after wave and then also pulled my daughter back out into the waves after each ride, which she loved! We had a great time and are looking forward to coming back next summer for more lessons.

Jiawen Zhang: A friend took me to learn surfing in Hawaii with Nick. He patiently taught me the basic movements of surfing and chose the beach that was most suitable for me based on my level. What's even more impressive is that Nick is a coach who pays great attention to the safety of students' sports. I booked a private lesson and it was absolutely worth it. It was my first time surfing so I was a bit apprehensive about whether I’d be able to catch any waves. My instructor Sean was lovely - so personable and encouraging. He did a great job setting me up with the right board and heading to a location that had waves appropriate for my skill level. I left the session feeling enthusiastic and confident. I’m hoping to bring my spouse back for a lesson soon so that we can learn together! 10/10 will be back ASAP.

He is a wonderful teacher and made they lesson fun and taught me and my husband a lot of new skills. Oscar helped us correct and fix our pop ups, taught us turns and worked with us on catching green waves. Since our lesson we both have been able to use and practice all the skills we were taught! This lesson definitely helped us move forward in our surfing skills and we are excited to keep learning!

Even if you are a little worried about English, the instructor's explanations are easy and the pronunciation is clear, so you don't have to worry about this. Even if you are not good at surfing or are doing it for the first time, I think you can give it a try. The beach is also good for beginners, so if you visit, be sure to stop by!

Myrna Nejat: My twin girls have been doing Aquasurf for the last three years and they're now 11 years old. When I say, I wish every camp was designed like Aquasurf, it's the truth. Their instructors are incredible! And the office always answers the phone or text. I honestly had some fear of dropping my kids off to a beach camp where they'd be in the ocean without me, BUT, the instructors are more than conscientious. My girls absolutely love every moment of Aquasurf! And my kids don't just go in the summer. They sometimes go during spring break or on a random weekend. Booking is easy and so flexible. Seriously, they need to train other camps on how to make it so fun, flexible and amazing. 5++++ more stars for Aquasurf!
MN T: As international visitors who don’t get to visit beach often, my nephews enjoyed the 2-day camp with the El Porto crew. They introduced the SoCal beach lifestyle and helped kids feel welcomed. My nephews stood up with coaches’ help in the first session. They were so stoked! The beach day includes surfing, body surfing, swimming, and fun beach activities. I would recommend adding optional beach cleaning or other ocean conservation activity. Overall, I highly recommend the camp.

The club meets 3x a week to surf and has movie nights & weekend overnight camp trips. I love seeing how the kids look up to the counselors. I recommend private one on one lessons to start so the instructor has your full attention. They provide wet suits and board so it’s super easy. Just suit up and go.

Gina Mistro: Freedom surf camp is a great experience for kids! Gilad and Nick and the other coaches truly care about all of the kids and make sure they learn ocean safety and an appreciation for the ocean. The coaches get to know each child and they don’t force any of them to swim beyond their depths. They know that some kids come to beach camp to surf all day and some come to hang out on the sand, talk to their friends, and boogie board. Gilad and his team are true mentors for the kids and they help this community to appreciate surfing and how much it can offer to kids. Our child has been a part of this camp for 5+ years and it’s helped build a ton of self confidence and pride.

The owner, Gilad and his instructors are alert, smart, skilled surfers and also have fun with kids. They pay attention to each and every kid. They understand how to encourage the kids just the right amount to get them to try new things in the water all while teaching them about the ocean. On these camp days I have seen even the smallest camper get on a surf board. I have seen kids joyfully screaming while boogie boarding. And I have seen kids of all ages play together to build elaborate sand castles. It is the ultimate summer beach week. We’ve been lucky to be part of this camp for years now and my daughter has developed a lifelong connection to the ocean thanks to Freedom.

He's 12 now and still loves coming to this camp every summer. Freedom is the only camp that have year around program training & coaching kids for advance level surfing and regional surf contests like WSA and NSSA. I sent my kids over there and by the end of the week they asked me to cancel all of their other camps since they want to stay and become surfers.

I took an hour lesson with an instructor named Jordan at Venice beach about a month ago, and I am still talking about about it today. I had the most incredible time. Going in I was sceptable whether I’d actually learn to surf, but I feel like I became a pro!! I was able to ride a few waves on my own without any help at the end.Jordan really made the experience that much better. He is an amazing dude and instructor. He was very generous with the timing and was extremely cheery and helpful. I would suggest using surf la, and specifically the Santa Monica location, to anyone looking to have a productive and fun day.
