Drum Lessons Los Angeles by Thanasi: what do users think?

Glen Gottlieb (GG): Been a student of Thanasi for about 4 months now and it’s been a great experience. Taking realistic steps to become more proficient as a drummer. The experience has been super fun and Thanasi is a wonderful teacher.

Tom Vaitsas: I just had the best lesson with Thanasi on my visit to LA!He is the best drummer, teacher and musician.I am a piano/organ player andThanasi helped me understand some rhythmic concepts that I have been having trouble with.

Mona Asadi: I play several instruments, and Thanasi is the BEST music teacher that I have ever had. He takes you up and up and up every session. He is taking my drumming to the next level and I feel for the first time in my life that I am truly STUDYING the drums. I get discouraged very easily when I am playing instruments but he always knows what to do and say to help you improve. For students who feel frustrated or stuck, he is perfect. He is honest and genuine. He is patient and kind. I highly recommend him and am really looking forward to continuing to working with him. I know Thanasi will get me to where I want to be. His prices are also very reasonable.

Alla Becker: I would like to express my great admiration for Thanasi as a wonderful teacher caring for each of his student with his heart, knowledge andProfessionalism. My grandson is Thanasi’’s student and looking forward to each lessonWith his teacher. The minute I’ve talked to Thanasi I knew I made the right choice. ThanasiTeaches his students to love music and care for it.Thanasi is real jewel in the industry of drums.I am greatly appreciate Thanasi for introducingMy grandson the world of music!

YUKUN LIU: I had tried drum lessons with multiple instructors across LA and decided to pin down here. Thanasi is super talented not only for drumming, but also for communication and teaching, a fun person to talk with as well. With some engineering background, he has a pretty clear logic when explaining the rationale behind drumming and music, from speed setting to the overall teaching strategy. For example, you'd see a full picture of how 'simple' and 'boring' looking techniques may get to the more advanced and 'fancier' level. The logical instruction is particularly what made me take lesson here for a long term. Also, Thanasi can point out nuance of sounds and give advice accordingly, such as stability levels of your rhythm and difference made by stick holding positions. And, there're parking spaces directly in front of the studio.Highly recommended!

Malia Musick: My 16 year old daughter loves Thanasi’s lessons! He is really patient and kind but also very detail oriented and encouraging. She has really improved so much over the course of just a few lessons. Thanasi has a very good structure in place for her to follow and it’s also fun and a lot of laughs. So grateful to find him!

George R: Thanasi is a great and very knowledgeable drummer in all styles of music. He has helped me master and continues to educate me on Greek music drumming. I come to L.A. frequently to study with the master.

Elena Moross: I had the chance to observe Thanasi teach my grandson, and I was thoroughly impressed. The teacher's expertise, patience, and ability to connect with my grandson were exceptional. Highly recommended!

Anurag Anand: . He's very knowledgeable

Morgan stolsig: Thanasi is by far the best drum teacher in Los Angeles. I went to a few people trying to find the best instructor for me and Thanasi was by far the most helpful, fun, and strategic. He makes sure you have a great time playing, but also really enforces the foundational steps to becoming an awesome drummer. Definitely sticking with it and I know that with his teachings I’ll be a sick drummer.

Bebeng Roberts: I love my drum lessons with Thanasi! He is a very knowledgeable and fun drum teacher! He always introduces some technique exercises that will help you immediately have what you need to perform songs right away! I am always looking forward to come back to the studio and drum every week! I would recommend Thanasi to anyone who wants to learn drumming quickly!

Cole Stamm: I’ve been taking drum lessons with Thanasi for almost a year and it has been a blast. I used to practice at a studio next to his and ran into him in the parking lot. He was super friendly and introduced himself. I was looking for a teacher in Los Angeles and reached out to him. Thanasi is fun, patient, and super encouraging. I appreciate his method of sticking with certain exercises starting slow and gradually increasing speed over time. We’ve worked on everything from stick control, accents, different rock rhythms, and even tuning drums. He’s always so flexible with scheduling and I really appreciate that in a teacher. I would recommend him to anyone at all levels looking to get learn and get better at the drums.

Luisa Lacsamana: Thanasi is an amazing drum teacher!I started taking lessons with him about six months into picking up the drums and he was able to identify and fill in the gaps that I was previously missing. His teaching style has given me a deeper understanding of drumming techniques and fundamentals, and he challenges me in many ways that have allowed me to make significant progress in my playing.Apart from being an excellent teacher, Thanasi is also a really great person. He is always so positive and encouraging which makes learning fun and I genuinely look forward to every lesson with him!! You can tell he cares about his students and loves his job.Overall, I highly recommend Thanasi as a drum teacher for anyone in the Los Angeles area looking to take their drumming skills to the next level!

marianna pap: I ‘ve been wanting to start drum lessons since i moved to Los Angeles and finally decided to search online! I am very glad i found Thanasi. He is a very fun drum teacher, helped me with hand technique and play songs from the beginning. Also the drum studio and drum sets are great! I would recommend Thanasi to anyone who wants to play the drums!

Joe Dzuban: Thanasi is an amazing drum teacher and musician! My son has had drum lessons for almost 3 years now and his progress has been remarkable. Thanasi is a one-man drum school - providing great teaching in musical fundamentals as well as tailored lessons to challenge and learn. His positive attitude and energy always make lessons fun. Whether it's learning the basics of drums from the ground up, sight-reading or jamming on contemporary styles, Thanasi has it covered. We are grateful to have him as our teacher, and highly recommend him to anyone looking to learn drums.

Anthony Catchatoorian: This was so much fun! I just took my first drum lesson with Thanasi! He is such a patient drum teacher, and he simplified his explanations. I am definitely coming back!!!

Marian Parazo: Thanasi is awesome! He’s knowledgeable, encouraging, entertaining, flexible, easy to communicate with, and makes you feel comfortable learning at any level of experience. I recommend him to anyone interested in playing the drums!😎🤘🏽🥁

Steph Nicole: Hands down the best instructor I have ever met. He is so dedicated to his students! I found him on Groupon when my son and I first moved to Los Angeles in 2015. My son was just 14 and a freshmen in high school when he first started. Two years later, Thanasi was taking me to buy my son's first drum kit as a surprise 16th birthday present. My son will be 21 this year and is still a student. I get teary thinking about how good my son has gotten and how much our family loves Thanasi. He is more than a drum instructor, folks. So much more! WE LOVE YOU THANASI!!

Los Angeles Guitar Bass and Drum Lessons: what do users think?

Desiree Morada: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,ValueVery nice

STEADFAST BUSINESS SOLUTIONS: Nice place.

Yaniv Kenan: Jan is a great instructor. I take bass and electric guitar lessons with him. He plays several instruments, so when I'm playing bass for example, he might play along with the guitar or drums. It's really helps in developing great rhythm, so it's a huge plus. Get ready to play and have lots of fun!

Eddie Buchannan: Jan is super cool, down to earth, and incredibly patient as a teacher. Being a bit of an older student I was somewhat embarrassed to go in at first but that pretty much disappeared after our first lesson due to Jan's professionalism.Would strongly recommend to anyone looking to Guitar, Bass, or Drums. He knows his stuff, and will take your playing to the next level, especially if you've never had lessons before!

Tony Gonzalez: Jan is awesome! Our 9-year old is learning to play the electric guitar and has learned so much. Jan is great with kids, very patient. My son loves his lessons and looks forward to them.

Tait Anderson: My 10 year old son has been taking lessons the past few months. He has really enjoyed the lessons and is learning a lot. He leaves every class and says “Jan is really fun.” Jan is very patient and encouraging as my son learns this new instrument.

Carley J: Great space and educating atmosphere! Knowledgeable and kind teacher with lots of experience. If you want to learn drums, piano, and/or guitar for beginner, intermediate, or advanced students take lessons with Jan!

Jamie Lundy: Both my kids take lessons from Jan. He has a lot of patience and makes it tons of fun too! Highly recommended.

Eric Reed: Jan is a patient and very knowledgeable teacher who presents learning music in a relaxed and comfortable way. Great teacher for all levels of musicians.

Ben Zhang: Jan is an incredibly amazing teacher. He is very knowledgeable and patient. As a newbie to music, I feel so lucky to find him and take courses at his place!

Tou U: I have been with Jan for over a month now. From my experience in taking both guitar and drum lessons with him, I have to say he is definitely one of the best teachers you can find. He is able to keep the lessons really informational, inspiring, and at the same time, very entertaining. You won't be bored by doing simple, repetitive exercises, instead, you get your basic skills done without even noticing. He will jam with you while you are practicing simple techniques, and make you feel extremely satisfying in that process. He is also very flexible with schedules so no more excuses of being a full time worker or students. And his passion and knowledge in music will definitely inspire and push you to become a better artist. Thumbs up!

Zhang Jan: I know I will learn from Jan ever since my first class with him. He teaches techniques while manage to make the process fun. He explains everything he wants you to do so you understand the purpose of each exercise. He doesn't only teach you how to play, but also how to practice on your own. Reasonable charge. Flexible with time. Perfect for someone who's working and still want to learn something after work. He prints out sheets of music so you don't have to purchase any book. All in all very knowledgable in music, and a professional teacher.

Sam Zayas: Jan is the best bass teacher you will find!Growing up in music conservatory, learning piano and theory was a traumatizing experience for me. I had always thought that maturity and resilience were essential at the start of this learning process, necessary qualities to make it through the harsh comments and judgmental finger-pointings that music teachers gave to their students. I assumed, after the first couple years, such experience would ease as the music skill developed. When I decided to finally get serious about learning the bass guitar last year, I honestly expected nothing less. I met Jan with this preexisting perspective my last eight music instructors had left me, and I am sincerely elated to say I was wrong, and there is a music teacher who is honest with and passionate about his students and their learning.I commence by stating Jan has a strong sense of authenticity and humility. He is very open about his learning experiences with the guitar. From the stories he has told, he understands the various challenges, including rhythm maintenance, chord analysis, and transcription, that accompany learning an instrument. In addition, he provides constructive advice, directed towards improving the student’s musicianship. Being taught by an individual who views his students as peers is critical as this makes the learning processes much less intimidating and significantly more enjoyable, and an enjoyable experience assists in maintaining interest and fostering motivation in music. I find that, now, I am ecstatic to grab my bass and practice very night. Eagerly, I look forward to my next lesson with Jan and seeing what he will teach me next.I must also share a few words on Jan’s teaching method. I think “anyone” can teach another person to play music. In fact, one might not actually need that “anyone.” One can self-teach how to read notes on staff paper and where the notes are on an instrument, and there one has it. However, Jan’s focus is not isolated to teaching a person how to play music yet more importantly also includes how to create music. He emphasizes the fundamentals— the chords, the scales, and the arpeggios—that transform sounds into music, highlighting the note patterns that are appealing to the ear and the context in which these notes sound best. Before starting my lessons with Jan, I could play one too many Beatle’s songs. Knew every note in the basslines and how long to play it for. What I could not tell you before Jan was why every one of those notes sounded incredibly awesome in their given song. While playing the basslines other artists have written is fun and is part of learning, I believe creating one’s own is more rewarding and pleasurable, and this ultimately contributes to one’s desire to keep learning the instrument.Jan’s teaching approach has been instrumental in my music skill development. His comprehension of music and his genuine personality make him an ideal teacher for any individual, adult or child. I have seen him teach with the same level of passion he has for music, and one will positively reap a strong musicianship learning an instrument with Jan. I owe Jan my deepest gratitude for imparting a loving for music and bass that will last my lifetime.

Brandie Thrift: Jan is a awesome music teacher and a cool guy! Down to earth and funny, pus I'm learning a lot from him. Check him out you won't regret it!

Fabrizio Boggiano: some music teachers are very good at playing an instrument but not good at teaching, Jan is not only a great musician, he's an amazing music teacher! I took 3 years of guitar lessons with him which included theory, rhythm, soloing, song writing and band practice.... now, I play in 2 different bands as lead guitar, he showed me the right path to pursue my musical goals!!! I still come back every now and then to steal his guitar tricks to help me continue grow as a musician, thank you Jan !!!

Lauren Luiz: Great relaxed place to make music. Jan has been helping me arrange and record my music for months and I always leave feeling ready to make more!Would HIGHLY recommend for any kind of lessons with Jan

Seif: I have been taking guitar lessons with Jan for the past couple of months and I have really been enjoying it. He is extremely professional and will always try to find a suitable time that fits your schedule. I feel like i have improved a lot since i started taking lessons and I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a fun and professional teacher.

Henry Mann: Jan is an amazing guitar teacher who can teach any style, whether it be jazz, funk, blues, or anything else. I've only been going to him once a week for a couple months and I've already corrected so much about my technique. Definitely the best guitar teacher I've ever had. Highly recommend.

Kasey Burdick: Jan is a very talented musician. As a teacher he is one of the very best for a wide range of students and abilities. Recording with him is always a pleasant experience and with such a cool creative space how could you not come back. Rock and roll forever! Thanks Jan!

Drum Lessons - John James: what do users think?

Amy Grodzienski: If you’re really serious about learning to play the drums, then John is definitely your guy! I’ve been learning with John for about a year and a half now and I’m a teacher myself, so I’m really picky about how others teach. One of the things that really sets him apart is that he majored in percussion at a university, so he has a very technical & thorough background. Luckily for his students, we actually learn in a very comprehensive manner, which builds upon skills that he teaches methodically and with great finesse. Students play super fun songs while increasing their ability to read music, comprehend theory, master rudiments, etc., all at the same time. John knows how to push you to your limit at every lesson while still having fun and ensuring you’re learning. He should actually be charging more because of his college training and exemplary teaching. Again, if you’re really serious about learning, then I can’t recommend John enough!

Sam Asra: I came to John for drum lessons over 6 months ago because I had a very weak sense of rhythm. I had a hard time staying in the pocket and he's been absolutely amazing! Super patient, incredibly skilled, and makes every lesson count. He goes above and beyond to teach you the art of drumming. Highly recommend for anyone looking to learn drums or build rhythm!

Thomas Bond: Best teacher in the world! Super patient and friendly and knows his stuff. Couldn’t be happier with him as my teacher!

Haely White: I was truly lost on where to find a great teacher. I found John James the Great online and feel it's my duty to confirm all the outstanding reviews!John James is one of the most incredibly gifted teachers, with the patience of a monk, and he has lit a passion in my son for drums and nurtured it over the past 6 months. I'm blown away by his ability to really get my *very active now 6 year old* to focus for 45 min straight! I cannot say enough about how grateful we are to find such a brilliant and dedicated teacher. And if you get the chance to watch him play I can assure you it is the greatest treat!

Melody Ruiz: and finishing now doing marching band and aiming for all city marching, learned tons of songs on drum kit and will use the skills I learned from him in the future. I seriously couldn’t be where i am today with these lessons forever grateful to have such a good drum teacher !!

Reiley Kim: John James has been a great teacher for our 11 year old child learning drumming this year! He keeps the lesson moving along with light-hearted rapport, while at the same time carefully pinning down technique and fundamental skills along the way. He is very patient and provides honest feedback to learn by, with an organized program of instruction for home. Highly recommend this teacher!

Suzanne S.: from other homeschool parents. We feel so fortunate to have found him! John is the perfect combination of teacher and coach. He is knowledgeable, kind, patient, and extremely motivating. John provides positive feedback and also encourages our son to stretch a bit beyond his comfort level - just the right amount - to improve in his drumming week after week. John's pace and method of instruction have been a great fit for our son, who is totally exceeding our expectations in drumming, reading music, and having so much fun that he even enjoys practicing daily at home. After six weeks of doing lessons with John once per week, our son was enjoying them so much that he asked if he could start doing them twice a week. It's awesome to see my son having such a blast and feeling the sense of accomplishment that comes with learning an instrument. Having a great teacher makes all the difference. We highly recommend John!

Hello Doggy: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueTeacher John is an amazing teacher and role model for our son. He knows all the tricks to make kids listen without being strict. He has great lesson plans that are easy for kids to follow. He is super patient, and I learn a lot from him as a parent. Highly recommended. I wish we knew him earlier.

Lee Allport: John is a patient drum teacher who kept my son learning and entertained which is important. My young teen son looked forward to drum lessons every week. He's quick to answer texts or emails which is always a plus for me. You won't be disappointed. 5 stars and two thumbs up!

Jerry Gawartin: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueI’ve been learning from John for the past two years and have developed from a complete newbie to being able to play increasing difficulty of songs. He’s very patient and detail oriented when it comes to instruction and helps you through hiccups/learning difficulties in class that you can’t provide yourself in a self guided training.

R Bank: Highly recommend John. He is one of the most experienced music teachers I’ve met. He’s very patient and knows how to break down issues and explain how to overcome specific challenges. If you’re looking to properly learn how to play the drums, look no further. I’ve been a student of his for a fair bit of time now and really happy with my progress.

Rose Peterkin: that blew us all away. John is patient yet firm. He is a talented and skilled private teacher and you will be able to excel and hone your skills whether your revisiting drums or learning for the first time. We highly recommend!!

Michelle Collins: Positive:Communication,Professionalism,Quality,ValueJohn is an amazing teacher. He makes learning how to play drums fun. Not only can he play his you know what off. He is a wealth of drumming knowledge. You can count yourself lucky to have a teacher like him.

Sheila Brown: I’ve always gravitated toward drums; I don’t know why. You play them on your steering wheel, but you have no idea what’s really involved until you start playing. My son took lessons when he was younger, and I never thought about taking them myself. And then one day I thought- why not see what drumming is all about. I’m usually skeptical of reviews that are too positive or too negative, but if they’re well written, I’ll give them credence. John’s reviews looked nice, so 10 months ago, I got out of my comfort zone and took a leap! As an adult student, I have seen my share of teachers throughout my life – and John makes the lessons fun, which is what music lessons should be. He has been playing his whole life, so he knows what is possible with practice and so enjoys seeing my progress, even though I am a slow learner that doesn’t like to practice. But I am drumming – and every week, I get a little better, learning new things and playing songs. And that is all due to John and his amazing talent as a teacher and drummer.

Alex Hanpeter: , and is totally focused on your growth as a drummer during your lesson. Beside that, he’s just a great guy - very nice and easy going. I would recommend John to anyone. Five stars!

Jude Tedmori: I've been with John James for over two years now and every week I'm learning new things! It's always the highlight of my week! Great Price and Flexible with our schedule! Highly recommend!

HD: John is an amazing teacher! I started lessons with him ~6 months ago, and I can see tremendous progress with each lesson. He is extremely thorough with his technique and has many tricks up his sleeve to help me get through any difficulties I have with playing/music theory. I've taken lessons before with other drum teachers and they aren't as attentive as he is, from the books he chooses, to how he conducts his lessons. Highly Recommended!!

Ryan Arenson: John has been my drum teacher for 6 months and I’ve learned so much from him already. He is a super patient and supportive drum mentor. I recommend John to anybody looking for a drum teacher, regardless of your current skill level.

Kate Coffey: I was a beginner when I started taking lessons with John last year. He’s a great teacher, super patient, encouraging, and willing to move his schedule around to accommodate for vacations etc.

J. O.: An active drummer for twenty-plus years, I felt as though my playing had hit a wall and that I needed help. Since studying with John the past two years I’ve experienced much needed improvement. My reading, sticking and footwork have all made major strides under his tutelage. John has been amazing at helping me to expand, and also solidify. Knowledgeable, friendly and fun. Check him out!

LAVOCE Music Academy: what do users think?

Bryce Peterson: Sending my daughter here for piano. Instructor seems expert and I'm satisfied with quality of lessons she is receiving here. Btw they have after school and tutoring as well, which I'm considering. Good place to drop off your kids for few hours while they learn bunch of stuff

Kay West: My son started drums and piano in September 2019 and has come so far in only a few months time. My husband and I were completely blown away when we would hear him practice at home and then turned into a little rockstar during his winter performance! He picked up reading music fairly quickly and has found great joy in both the drums and piano because of his instructors. The instructors are passionate about teaching music to their students and it clearly shows. The owner is very kind and loves each of her students. I've already recommended LaVoce to friends when they found out our son was taking up drums and piano. We highly recommend LaVoce and can not wait to see what an amazing musician our son will become!

Kristin Shewfelt: I just so happened to meet the Mari, the Director of LAVOCE Academy of Music, at a sushi bar. The lunch turned into a discussion of her music academy and I told her about my life-long desire to play the cello. I've been a Yo Yo Ma fan as long as I can remember and no one else plays Ennio Morricone or Brazilian tango like he does. And there you go. I am now taking cello lessons at age 61. My teacher Hannah gracefully and quite patiently guides me through the beginnings of learning the instrument. And as I learn how to pull horsehairs across the strings, I hear the young children at the piano, on the drums, at their violin, and I am amazed at the width and breadth of what this wonderful Academy of Music does for the community. Mari recently hosted a holiday recital at a local church to display all that talent bursting from this academy, a little jewel on the corner of Highland and Wilshire. Again, amazing. Wonderful musicians all with loving and supportive parents. You couldn't ask for more. And Mari works from sunup to sundown to make sure it all keeps going. I consider myself so lucky and look forward to learning more and getting a warmer sound in 2020!

Ken Spector: A wonderful music school with highly skilled, patient, and caring teachers. Be sure to request Silvija as a piano instructor.

Morgan Baek: It is wonderful moments where I live in this place every Saturdays! Our whole family getting various lessons such as Drum for my 5 years old son, flute for my 10 years daughter, Piano for my hubby and daughter!Truly professional teaching skill even for adult!! WOW!!

Hell_ Girl: This school is great. I recommend it!!!

dj Nanzy showtime: It's a great play to learn music. My niece is taking his first piano lesson and my nephew is taaing his first guitar lesson there. They both enjoy it especially my niece.. she is getting better. The teacher is also friendly, always giving us the update about the kids progress. Very recommended.

JACKY BAEK: Моя дочь занимается фортепиано всего 2 месяца и уже выросла.мы очень благодарны нашему учителю.

Elizabeth Kim:

Bryan Peace:

Deborah Moman:
