Since 2004, Hollywood Academy of Music and Arts has been providing both kids and adults of Los Angeles with high quality, affordable music lessons and performing arts classes in a professional studio environment. Over 5,000 students have attended lessons and classes at Hollywood Academy of Music since our founding, making us one of the largest private music and arts schools in LA. We also offer scholarships and reduced fees to students in need in order to further the growth of the arts in our community, and to help students learn life skills and build self-esteem through arts education.

4worldlovers: Born to a musical family, Cello was initially trained in classical music by his father, the principal cellist of the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra, and later continued his studies with Hao Guo, the associate principal cellist of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra. In 2010, he attended the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music as a full scholarship student, studying with the world-known soloist Li-Wei Qin. Cello earned an Artist Diploma at the Colburn Conservatory of Music, where he was a full scholarship student studying with Clive Greensmith, previously having been there under the tutelage of the legendary Ronald Leonard. In 2017, Cello was appointed as artist in residence for the Philharmonic Society of Myanmar Summer Music Festival, as well as the Benefic Chamber Music Festival.

Cello's music performances began at the age of 14 when he was recognized as one of the “Ten Talented Young Artists of China.” Two years later, Cello won second prize at the prestigious “Ai Qin Bei” Competition in Beijing, China. In 2013, Cello won the 1st prize at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory (YSTCM) Concerto Competition. In 2018, Cello won the Grand Prize of the Enkor International Chamber Music Competition as a member of the Benefic Piano Trio.

Cello is very active in his chamber music career. In 2013, he collaborated with violinist Gina Medina, the concertmistress of the Manila Symphony orchestra, and pianist Mary Anne Espina. Cello was invited to play in a series of chamber music concerts in 2014 with Seiji Ozawa in Japan. In 2015, Cello was invited to Weimar in Germany and played as principal cellist in the ensemble under the baton of Helmuth Rilling. In 2017, Cello won the international audition and became a Lincoln Center Stage chamber musician.

As a dedicated orchestral player, Cello served as principal cellist in the YSTCM Symphony Orchestra and the Young Artists Symphony Orchestra of Los Angeles, as well as guest principal in Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra. Cello has played in a number of other orchestras such as the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Santa Monica Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and the Debut Symphony Orchestra of LA. In 2017, Cello won a core position at Hawaii Symphony Orchestra.

Cello has worked with many acclaimed cellists including Wang Jian, Frans Helmerson, Louis Claret, Guy Johnston, David Geringas, Gary Hoffman, and Louise Hopkins. Cello’s performance repertoire ranges from that of the Baroque to the 21st Century, including composers like Bach, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann, Rachmaninoff, Dvorak, Shostakovich, Martinu, Poulenc, Ligeti, and Kaajia Saariaho.

Cello has been awarded numerous scholarships to attend festivals such as the Great Mountain Music Festival, Seji Ozawa International Chamber Music Festival, Hohenstaufen International Chamber Music Academy, and the Weimar International Bach Academy. Recently, Cello has consistently performed recitals in China, Singapore, and the United States.

Cello's name was given by his musician parents who hoped that he can continue pursuing his cello career after his father, the former principal cellist of the Sichuan Symphony Orchestra.

I was born to a family of cellists. Both my father and my uncle are professional cellists in symphony orchestras. I got my first taste of cello playing at age of 4. I spent most of my childhood, teenage years, and early twenties performing on stages across the world.

At age 22, I was very fortunate to get my first private student. From then on, teaching has become an inseparable part of my life, which totally changed my perspective towards music, human-relationship, and my view of the world.

Sharing my knowledge of music with my students has not only provided a different perspective of music itself but, more importantly, teaching brought me unparalleled happiness and joy from every successful recital and every extraordinary achievement from my students.

For me, the best part about music is not just the beauty of music itself, but also the power of music transcends all boundaries and connect people across all cultures, all languages, and all lifestyles. I’m passionate about continuing to share my music through teaching and I am excited to meet all perspectives of students and guide them through their musical paths.
