Since 2004, Hollywood Academy of Music and Arts has been providing both kids and adults of Los Angeles with high quality, affordable music lessons and performing arts classes in a professional studio environment. Over 5,000 students have attended lessons and classes at Hollywood Academy of Music since our founding, making us one of the largest private music and arts schools in LA. We teach piano, guitar, voice, drums, ukulele, cello, violin, viola, trumpet, clarinet, saxophone, flute, audio production, and mini-music (for kids ages 3-5) so there really is something here for everyone.

Frequent performance opportunities for all students. We have two big recitals per year in a performance venue, and smaller concerts in our waiting area on the second Sunday of every month. Our big recitals include free family photos by a professional photographer!

Love IO. I just finished my first quarter last night. I have a little music background on the piano, DJ experience, and general electronic music love -- but no Ableton experience. In just one quarter I've become proficient at composing, arranging, and even remixing in Ableton -- and I had a load of fun doing it. We learned how to use the Push 2, some keyboard playing basics as well as music theory. The instructors are great -- both Adam and Andy were always sharing little nuggets of wisdom and their own little tricks and tips -- It might sound silly but I felt really lucky to learn from these guys since they are real producers offering up real world tips. They'll often share their own professionally produced tracks in class and breakdown how and why they did what they did -- and encourage you to ask questions. One of the best things about IO though is the vibe -- the instructors really encourage you to create and explore and experiment in a space that non judgmental -- everyone was really supportive including my classmates. We all clap for each other in class and generally encourage and push each other to do better. I really can't say enough good things about IO. I'm updating this now for 2020 -- I've also been taking some of their online courses during lockdown, and they've all been great.

Might be a bit biased, as I've been with them since the beginning, but IO is a unique and amazing space to learn music production and it's exactly the kind of spot I wish I had when I started.

IO is incredible; i've already sent several friends interested in deepening their music production skills to the school and they're all stoked! The classes are small, and you can get so much extra help during the week as well as studio time while you're enrolled in the course. 5 stars for all the teachers, especially Adam Johan!

I am currently enrolled in the school and love every aspect of it -it's a hands-on boutique collaborative experience That allows you to share your creative self in a room with like minded people! I would highly recommend anyone contemplating about getting into it to go take the tour you'll be glad you did.

I just completed the course "Building Blocks," and never did I ever think I would've been able to make a track in ten weeks. I tried learning on my own in a different DAW, but it was really difficult to do so since there weren't a lot of sources and no one to answer my questions. Josh and the other instructors did a fantastic job of structuring the classes so that each week we could build on the skills we learned from the previous classes. Josh was also helpful not only inside but outside the class as well, which I highly appreciate in a teacher. I also appreciate how this school is very affordable and didn't attend a music production school for the longest time due to the high costs at other institutions. If you're on the fence on attending IO, do it! The school has so much to offer and I can't wait to attend the next quarter of classes.

I wish I could put 6/5 stars! Had such a wonderful experience at IO. The instructors are knowledgable and patient. The class size is small enough in order to get individualized attention, but not uncomfortably small. All-in-all I had a great time at IO!!
